Dear Friends –
I’m running for the Board of Equalization because Californians deserve a property tax system that is fair, consistent, and grounded in accountability. Throughout my career—as a veteran, a federal prosecutor, a state legislator, and a small-business owner—I’ve been a leader in roles that demanded integrity, disciplined oversight, and an unwavering commitment to the public good. Those are the qualities I will bring to this office.
The BOE’s work affects every homeowner, business, and community. Every Californian depends on accurate assessments and fair collections to fund schools and public safety. Families and small businesses deserve clear, predictable rules. And major public utility properties must be assessed objectively so local communities get every dollar they’re owed.
As your representative, I’ll protect homeowners, make sure local communities aren’t shortchanged, and keep the system honest and accountable to taxpayers.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Tom Umberg
State Senator
Senate District 34
Democrat for Board of Equalization
